Hildegard von Bingen. Nun, Healer, Mystic and Prophet.
On 1st May, I was with my parents in the remaining parts of the monastery of Chorin, a small city not far away from Berlin's northeast. As we finished our tour, I bought a small and cheap book in the monasterie's bookstore. A book written by a woman known as "Hildegard von Bingen" (Hildegard of Bingen or St. Hildegard), which I never have heard from before.
As I have read her teachings at home, which were nice small sentences added with beautiful pictures of nature, crosses and other things, I have felt that this woman was much more, than just a nun. As I then looked deeper into it, I read that she was the first person on earth writing down medicine recepits. And she received visions from the almighty lord. A good muslim friend of mine told me, that they have 125.000 prophets in Islam, but all of them are male. But now I think, this is not 100% right. Hildegard von Bingen received the order of Jahwe (Allah), to write everything down. Thats why she wrote so much books. It was her order from heaven to write everything down.
Here is a link with a german text and nice pictures:

And here is an english text about her from the same site:

My mother even told me, that there has been made a german movie, where only some of the best german actors so far have been hired for. I bought it blindly on Amazon, knowing that the Bible tells us to always honour our parents, although this is sometimes very hard for me to do so.
On the picture I uploaded, you can see the small book as well as the movie Blu-Ray and it's wonderful soundtrack CD. The movie is really good too. Of course it cannot show the whole life of her, this would be just too much. But if you are interested in german movies and german actors, this one you may like. Barbara Sukowa as Hildegard von Bingen and Heino Ferch as Monk Volmar, which of course existed as well and always supported Hildegard. These two are great german actors, with a lot of experience.
You know, I would like to write more about Hildegard von Bingen, but the letter limit keeps me at bay and thats why I'm happy I found for you the two links.
And my muslims friends Hildegard was not the only female prophet. During the same time there was another female prophet living, even in the same area: Elisabeth von Schönau.

@Steve: Just a few words this time: Think before you write.

The Chinese and other cultures used herbal remedies for the treatment of illnesses a long time before this religious woman of the Dark Age myths. I do admire the Chinese and other ancient cultures for discovering the "natural" healing powers of herbal medicines. Yes, there is a "natural" explanation for everything which happens in the time and space of our universe. Hildegard von Bingen might have easily convinced primitive, small-minded Medieval fools that she was a "prophet", but she would never have been able to fool anybody who has a scientific understanding of life. Do you really believe this woman was a "prophet"? What exactly did this woman ever do to convince you that she was really a "prophet" from "God" or that she was "divinely inspired" by a supernatural power?
