Translate the following into English concentrating on the use of the Present Perfect and Past Indefinite in sentences containing an indication of a period of time:

1. «Вы не можете мне сказать, уехала ли мисс Смит лондонским поездом сегодня утром? » — спросил он у начальника станции. — «Нет. Она опоздала на него» .
2. Они проговорили около двух часов, и затем он сказал, что ему надо повидать кое-кого из друзей.
3. Его мать на пенсии. Она долго работала учительницей.
4. Послушай-ка, Джон, твоя хозяйка говорит, что ты сегодня лежишь целый день в постели. Это ведь не годится, правда?

Мой перевод:
1. Could you tell me, if Miss Smith left/went on the London train this morning?, he asked the person in charge of the station / stationmaster.  "stationmaster" (variant "station master") sounds a bit old-fashioned in English.  [Don't use the present perfect when you're talking about a more or less "specific" time:  "this morning."  Exception: When the activity is still occuring up to the present:  "I have lived here since 1995."

2. They were talking for about two hours, then he has said that he needed to see a friend of his.
3. His mother is retired. He worked long as a teacher for a long time.
4. Listen John, your hostess has said that you have been lying in bed all day long.  That's not good, is it?   [I used the present perfect (progressive) here, because the activity started in the past, and has continued up to the present moment.]    Don't confuse "lie" (lay, lain, lying) (лежать) with "lay" (lay, laid, laying) (класть).  But if you get them confused, don't worry.  Native speakers, including me, confuse them too!]
