Mass tourism is harmful to the environment
In recent years, there
have been many problems
with mass tourism, which raise our concern about mass
pollution. Mass tourism means large, uncontrolled numbers of tourists. With the development of economy and the growth in the living standard, tourism is booming. It is obvious that tourists enhance the development of hotels and shopping facilities, which
consequently create jobs for
the local people. It makes
a contribution to our society,
but at the same time,
it harms our environment
when the number of tourists is uncontrolled. So, I think mass tourism is harmful to the environment.
On the one hand, thousands of people visiting an area would cause more pollution. For instance, air pollution, water pollution, etc. With so many visitors crowding into tourist
destinations, there is an increasing demand for different means of transportation, such as buses, cars,
subways, etc. At the same time, the more
fuel is used, the more waste gases
are sent out, which
certainly lower
s the air quality. It is well known that exhaust
gases from automobiles
are one of the primary reasons causing air pollution.
With many travelers flocking to different destinations, the problem of water pollution is also acquiring
importance. Many people who visit an area sometimes
show careless
behavior. They
leave food
leftovers, paper, and bottles behind, which harm water resource
s. Because if it rains, we can see the rubbish
dragged by rainwater to rivers or to the sea. Sometimes, tourists even litter in the river, which also cause
s the water pollution.
On the other hand, the overcrowding will threaten the
preservation of tourist sites, which are sometimes natural heritage
, such as some mountains or
beaches with unique feature
s, which appeal tourists. The mass tourism could
result in damage
to the local environment.
Careless people could harm plants, animals or objects
which are important to a local culture because those on v
acation often
don't realize the damage they can cause.
It is undeniable that the worsening environment has become the biggest concern of the present day world. The environment damage is the price we have to pay for the rapid economic development. Tourism is one of the main reasons that improve
the econom
y and cause pollution. Thus, some actions need to be taken to control the number of tourist, in order to protect our ecological system. We firmly believe that tourism should be developed harmoniously with environmental protection.
