Excuse me, can you help me with this sentence? "The Mikimoto Store is a must see that showcases a gorgeous selection of pearl jewelry. If you're looking for a more affordable keepsake, you can Pick-A-Pearl for under $20. (The pearl itself is inexpensive, it's the settings that can add up.)" Pick-A-Pearl is an experience event. I don't understand what " it's the settings that can add up " means... Can you explain what it means in another expression to me? Please help me. Thank you in advance!

I would guess this is an American add. We use the word "settings" all the time. A "setting" refers to the decoration style and material of the band and prongs/bezel for the stones. For example, when you look for an engagement ring, the first thing the clerk will ask you is "What type of setting are you looking for? Contemporary, antique, solitaire, etc."

Hi meeks! You are right that you can't understand this sentence! It doesn't make sense and is incorrect. I think what it wants to say is the way the pearl is 'set' - that is, set in gold or silver jewellery. The writer should not have used 'settings' . Perhaps, 'it's the way that it is set that can add up', or 'it's the other materials used to make the finished product that can add up'. Not as catchy - but at least it's understandable! :) thanks!
