I was wondering when to use each of these forms

I would say “I’m standing in the queue” but you can also say “I’m standing in line.”
“Queue” is British-English and “line” in this context, is American -English. It just depends on personal preference.

Hi Finnian! It just depends where you are from. In America, we always say that we are “in line” and in the UK I’ve always heard them say “queue”. We still use the word queue in America, but not for this purpose

In summary, Finnian, if you're in England or Australia, use either, although we prefer "in the queue". If you're in the USA, it's best to speak how they understand. I've been to a few places that I couldn't understand anyone in the US 😂 Keep learning English. Love the questions

So we all agree definitely not "in queue". We're "in the queue" or "in line". I'm Australian and I can't decide. I use both.
