Writing telephone number If I write a telephone number in English, can I use hyphen in the sentence? It seems that using comma is the best, but can I use hyphen? "My phone number is one two three four, five six seven eight." may be good, but can I write "My phone number is one two three four - five six seven eight."?

Writing Telephone Numbers: There are different forms in writing telephone numbers down in different countries. In the US, at least where I live, it is (213) 746 - 1776. Area code, prefix code and the actual phone number. Then there is a new style of using periods as in 213.746.1776.

Actually I wanted to know wether I can use hyphen if I write down the numbers in English like 1...one, 2...two I use hyphen when I write telephone number with Arabic numbers. ex) 1234-5678 But if I spell out those numbers, I wonder if I can use hyphen. like one-two-three-four... Sorry for the confusion.

It depends where you live. In Australia the area code is in brackets ( ) followed by the numbers, unless it's a mobile number. I am sure that you can use a hyphen.

In the UK we don't use hyphens or commas just spaces. 0044 161 3853201 (or from inside the UK 0161 3853201). First the country code, then the area code and then the actual residential or business number.
