The two words are very simillar. Big is overused, less estetical :) and large is much more descriptive. For example you say a large army rather then a big army.

There is not much difference. "large" is a bit more descriptive. Large aound better because a two year old can call things big, but usually a child would not describe things as large because of their smaller vocabulary.
