Obelisk vs Column. Is there something difference?
SCRIPT (from Collins Cobuild dictionary)
Obelisk: An obelisk is a tall stone pillar that has been built in honour of a person or an important event
Column: A column is a tall, often decorated cylinder of stone which is built to honour someone or forms part of a building. ex) Nellson's column.
QUESTION
What's the difference of them. Both 'honours' someone or something so I think there's pretty much no difference between them.
What would you say? Thanks!

Obelisks are purely decorative, free-standing monuments whose sole purpose is to commemorate or honor an event/person. They have a specific shape which is four-sided and tapers into a point at the top.
Columns are (mostly) cylindrical, form part of a building and, while often decorated, are rarely used to honor someone in modern times. Obelisks and columns are similar in that they are both stone structures, but distinct in every other regard.

An obelisk is only decorative. A column is usually used to provide structural support for a building.
