It really depends on the person, I'm American and I like Chinese people (they seem a lot nicer than the average person); however, there are racists and crap out there, so it really depends on who it is, there are Chinese restaurants and stuff around here that have a lot of Chinese people over here. There's also a Taiwanese family at my church, so... yeah. It just depends on which American.

Well, certainly there are "some Americans who despise Chinese people" but not BECAUSE they speak poor English. They rather USE this as a means to degrade and mock Chinese people. Obviously Chinese and Americans have different cultures, which in some cases lead to hatred. It's merely because lots of people around the world, and not just Americans, don't know our history, don't understand where we Chinese come from and why we behave like we do. The whole world is screaming at us, trying to make us adapt to the western pattern. Well, we respect your customs, wish you could respect ours!

No, westerners certainly do not despise Chinese. Given cultural differences, some problems naturally arise, but surveys show that Americans realize Chinese highly value education and family. The further south you go, the more that this tends to be true, in my experience. I'm from British Columbia, Canada, where there are a LOT of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean people, so Canadians are fairly accustomed to these types of accents. But yes....in general, most Americans have a hard time understanding Chinese accents.
