the same meaning in sentences?(in alarm, to one's alarm & To one's surprise, In surprise) Does the sentence 1 and the 2, and the sentence 3 and the 4 mean the same thing? 1.The deer ran off in alarm. 2.The deer ran off to their alarm. 3.To her surprise, she was then asked how much she could pay. 4.In surprise, she was then asked how much she could pay.

For 1 and 2: no, completely different. The first sentence means the deer was startled. the second sentence means the hunters(?) were shocked. Sentence 3 makes sense. Sentence 4 does not.
