持っています and あります the EXACT difference.I've always thought that 持っています/もっている means 'have' but more like "holding" and あります more like "there is/are" so everything was okay till I read a native speaker post that says "すかいぷもっています" I have a Skype. I really got confused. can any one explain with more details and examples, please?

Yes, 持って(い)ます(polite form)/持って(い)る(casual form) literally means "to have" "to possess" or "to be holding" something, and あります(polite form)/ある(casual form) means "There is/are ~~". But we often use both to mean "to have", eg; スカイプアカウント持ってます。 スカイプアカウントあります。 PS3持ってるよ。 PS3あるよ。

I think the person meant to say "I have a Skype account" by スカイプもってます.
