what does yawnee mean? What does this sentence from Cloud Atlas mean: Nay, this life all rot n' lockin' no smile a' some yawnee. I found the subtitle online. It sounds strange. What does "lockin'"(locking?) mean here? And yawnee. And why isn't there a verb in it. Is that normal? Thanks! Also, it seems things like this cannot be learned from class. What should I do if I want to be able to understand sentences like this?Cloud Atlas the film.the context is like this: [[[[[[Ηаwаііаn Ιѕlаndѕ 106 WΙΝΤΕRЅ ΑFΤΕR ΤΗΕ FΑLL]]]]] Narrator: Νаy, thіѕ lіfе аll rоt n' lосkіn'. nо ѕmіlе а' ѕоmе yаwnее. In the context of the storyline in the film, "yawn" means to tell a long story. This is not standard English and is a dialect designed especially for the film, so I'm really sorry but you'll have to struggle with it. Here's how I understand it, but other speakers may think differently: "Nay, this life all rot n' lockin' no smile a' some yawnee." "No, this life is rotten and not smiling at any storyteller." (ie. life is difficult and not a fairytale)

I don't know, it that specific one doesn't make sense at all. I think it's "no smile at some yawnee". but what is "yawnee"...

I suspect the subtitle is not correct.
