What does "Гой" mean?
The best example that I can find of this is the Аркона song "Гой, Роде, Гой" in which Rod is the Slavic God of the Universe. I have heard that it is a hailing, and the song is generally translated as "Hail, Rod, Hail" but I have also heard that it is a simple expression such as "Oy" or "Ugh."

It is an obsolete word. I had to turn to a dictionary to find out its definition.
It says: “interjection. Used to express a greeting or to address someone”.
So I think “hail” fits properly.
Hope you understand my English. :)
