Is there a word for 'fountain drink' in French? Recently, I had a French lesson on Skype and we were talking about soft drinks. My French friend said that Coke from a bottle tastes better than Coke from a can. I was trying to respond that I thought Coke from both a bottle and a can tastes better than Coke from a fountain but I had a hard time translating. After struggling with trying to describe 'fountain drinks' it occurred to me that there probably aren't fountain drinks in France because, I'm pretty sure, the idea of self-serve free refills on soft drinks is probably limited to the United States. Maybe Canada? So, I was curious if there was a word for 'fountain drinks' in French.

In Canada, we say "en fontaine" like you. Here in England, at KFC, coke is served from a tap, so same as a fountain, minus the self service. Not sure for France. I bet McDo has them too.

In France (e.g. Mc Donald's), sodas are served from a tap, too. I'm not aware of a specific word that you could use to describe it. I would say "la machine à sodas" or "le distributeur de sodas".

In France, there are no free refills (:() so no need to translate "fountain" drink !! "Distributeur de boissons" comme suggéré par Sylvio me parait le plus approchant.
