"Dibs" means you claim something for yourself, in casual speech. The rule is that the first person who claims it shall have it. The sentence pattern is "I've got dibs on X". Did you know there is a Pop Tart in our new fridge? No,[I didn't know that], but [I've got] dibs [on it]. (Meaning, "I'm claiming it for myself. It's mine.")
