When to avoid unnecessary words? Hi folks, I would like to know when to avoid the use of some words when writing in English? Here a couple of example about what I'm talking about: - the features available in this site (bad) / the features in this site (good) - help me with the improve of my English grammar (bad) / help me improve my English grammar (good) The thing is that I'm not sure when to avoid the use of extra words, does anybody can suggest me what to bear in mind in order to realize how to improve this issue? Hope my question is understandable... thanks in advance. Luis

Hi, I am not native speaker but I would suggest that whenever you can use "simpler" construction with fever prepositions - it would be better. The best logical reason I would recommend - with shorter structure and fever prepositions it is less likely to make mistake :) Have a look: - help me to improve my English grammar - help me with the improvement of my English grammar Both sentences are ok but second is longer (and from my point of view it is slightly more complicated grammatically).

I'm sorry to say this, but there's a much bigger problem. "Here a couple of example" "the improve of my English grammar" "does anybody can suggest me" These are quite embarrassing mistakes - the third one is poor even at the basic level. I think you should focus on improving your grammar before you decide to remove any words. Otherwise, you'll only make even worse mistakes. Good luck.
