Profesyonel Öğretmendifference between 喜 & 喜欢
Can someone please explain why in Chinese we use 喜欢? Because the dictionary says that 喜 (alone) also means "like." Is it possible to use only the fist character (我喜啤酒) or must we use both characters (我喜欢啤酒)?
对不起,很基本的问题...我是初学者 !!

We always use "喜欢”in Chinese . "喜欢”means like.
I like something. Means 我喜欢… We don't use "喜”alone.

forget about 喜,we don't use it in comment sentences ,
it always combine with 欢 as “喜欢" If you are trying to say: I like something~

@John: yes...I was reading that in modern Mandarin, two syllables are often preferred because a single syllable word can be more difficult to understand, and also the second syllable gives the listener time to process what the speaker is saying...the evolution of language is certainly fascinating.
