Different kanji for jump, why is this?
I was studying a bit with Rosetta Stone, and i came to see a bunch of kanji for 'jump'.
they were these:
跳ぶ
飛ぶ
翔ぶ
why are there three of them? are they used in any specific situations? if it helps, the verbs had 'aggregates' for 'jump down' and 'jump across'.
"tobiorite" and "tobikoete" I think it was. does this have anything to do?
Thanks in advance

Hi.
Generally, for jumping 飛ぶ is used. If you want to emphasize that jumping is done by foot or by bouncing to go over something, you can also use 跳ぶ。 翔ぶ is an out-dated or old fashioned way and is not very commonly used. (The Japanese Kanji converter on PC/Mac does not bring this Kanji).
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
