for what~, for if~? I want to know the part of speech(prepostion or conjunction) of 'for' and the meaning in the following two sentences. Please, help me. For what is happening is larger than any of these. For if we look closely around us we find, crisscrossing the manifestations of failure and collapse, early sings of growth and new potential.

In both sentences, "for" is used as a conjunction meaning "because".
