What's the meaning of the following Spanish expressions?
What's the meaning of the following Spanish expressions:
1. "los cargadores del anda de la Virgen del Carmen";
2. "una indiecita recubierta de alhajas".
These expressions were from the following sentence:
"Entre las salinas de Maras y los andenes circulares de Moray, en el valle del Urubamba, asisto a una pequeña procesión en la que los cargadores del anda de la Virgen del Carmen –una indiecita recubierta de alhajas— van disfrazados de incas y, luego, se celebra una fiesta en la que grupos de estudiantes de la Universidad de San Antonio Abad bailan huaynos y pasillos."Original text: El País Cusco en el tiempo

Ok check this out....
"los cargadores"- Who carries the pedestal. Usually a group of males.
"anda" - it's like a pedestal where they put the virgin.
"los cargadores del anda de la Virgen del Carmen" -The ones that are carrying the Vigrin's pedestal.
"una indiecita recubierta de alhajas"
-"Indicita" - I am more than sure they are talking about an young indian (as inca)
-"recubierta" - covered
-"de alhajas" - jewelry
"una indiecita recubierta de alhajas" A young Inca female covered in jewelry.
Hope it helps.
I dont quite understand number one.. But number 2 is talking about an indian/ indigenous lady covered in jewelry. Then the author proceeds to talk about they are dressed as incas
