Is it okay? Please read the next sentence below. Please correct me using the right words, in case there's a mistake. I got confused with the "whereas" word "I refused to believe there was anything wrong in that meal WHEREAS I was in such a famous exotic place."

Drop the where and just use as. Very rarely will you here Whereas in ordinary spoken English. It is moving into the realm of archaic terminology found most often in legal documents.

That's actually just a wrong usage of 'whereas.' Whereas can be heard in spoken language, even if it's not terribly common. Various dialects use different terms, so be aware. Whereas means something closer to 'although' or 'on the contrary.'
