I haven't the slightest idae. Yesterday I read the following sentence in Cambridge Advanced Learner's dictionary. I cannot sense that and I feel it is not a correct sentence. Please help me. (I couldn't get the mean of 'haven't' as the MAIN VERB) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I haven't the slightest idea what he's talking about.

Haven't is a contraction of 'have not. So the person is saying that they have not the slightest idea what he's talking about. Or, they do not have even a very slight idea of what he is saying. I have a dog is a sentence with have as the verb. I haven't got a dog = I do not have a dog. I have not got any idea what he is talking about. Does that make it clearer?

haven't = have not You can say "I don't…have…", and you can also say"I have not…" Both are ok. You may choose either of them.
