Please explain about this sentence. :'( "Attitudes towards learner errors have changed considerably in recent decades. Approaches based on behaviorist principles(particularly audiolingualism)" advocate the initial avoidance of errors and their diligent correction should they occur." I do not understand the part"their diligent correction should they occur". 1:What "their" and "they" stand for? I mean, whose diligent and who do occur? 2:Why does the "should" precede "they"? Thanks a lot.

The part you do not understand means if someone makes a mistake then they need to tirelessly correct that mistake. 1. "Their" stands for the person making the error. "They" stands for the errors that may occur. 2. "Should they" basically means "if they", so it would be "if they occur". Sorry if I provided any inaccurate information!

I really appreciate your answer! Now I totally understand. I now know it's like, "Should I fail again (=If I should fail again), I will be discharged." Thanks a lot!
