Destiny in the place/state that you are "destined" to end up at/in. Fate is more a reference to the forces that control this idea.

They mean the same thing in many cases. Often, they can mean a chain of events that are out of one's control. Fate can mean the outcome of a particular event. It can also have a negative connotation when used to describe an inescapable death.
