How to say 6:30 (or 7:30, or 8:30 etc)
My text book had me do an exercise where I was saying that someone was meeting another at a certain time.
Mr. Smith will meet Mr. Nakamura in the hotel lobby at 6:30 on Friday. (Time of day is not specified).
I wrote : (Apologies, I do not yet know kanji)
ス三スさんは きんようびの ろくじ さんじゆぅぷんに ホテルの ロビーで なかむらさんい (aren't names supposed to be in katakana?) あいます。
When checking to see if my sentence is correct the book has 6:30 as ろくじはん。
Just wondering what is the most common way to say half past the hour.

Names are only in katakana if they are foreign. Native Japanese have Kanji names that can be changed to hiragana.
Your book claimed ろくじはん
If we break it down:
ろく = 6
じ= time
はん= half
Its the equivalent to us saying half-past 6, so yes it is common.
Hope that helps.

Hi, in everyday conversation, we say ろくじはん、しちじはん、はちじはん.
For the tome of transportations, the workers in the station, airport, etc, they use ろくじさんじゅっぷん、しちじさんじゅっぷん、はちじさんじゅっぷん. There are cases they say さんじっぷん and ななじ. The same happens on the news on TV, radio, etc.
I hope this was helpful.
