there's one way i used when i was at school for your reference. list the homophones and those words looks alike,then differentiate them,join words,make sentences.this will be quick,i like this method,very funny.Maybe u can try,anyway,u must memorize. haha, wow what can I say. two years and counting for me. I've heard one year of english study is like 4 years of chinese study. However, I don't believe that. I think chinese can be an easy language to learn. HOWEVER, I think the resources to teach it are poor and are not properly organized. for example there are a lot of what I call "Ni Hao Schools" that charge you WAY TOO MUCH money and teach you NOTHING. They drive me crazy. furthermore since starting my studies I have gone through 7 books and ALL OF THEM have problems. I think as more non-chinese people learn the language (though the mess that is given to them) the more organized chinese teaching will come out of it. Because in my personal experience I find chinese resources written by non-chinese are more clear. My advice, jump into the chinese alphabet (pinyin) soup and take small sips at a time.
