what does the french word "tiens" means? what does it mean in this sentences: "Je ne tiens pas à faire changer vos habitudes" "C'est pour ça que je tiens tant à ce que tu viennes courir avec nous" could you please provide me with another examples where this woed is used in every day life? Thank you

"tenir à" includes the idea of "firmly wanting". It has "mandatory" and "important" built in it. It's a bit weird to explain as it has no counterpart in English as far as I know. "wanting" do the job, but it doesn't have the same power.

tenir in your examples mean: "want to" with the emphasis on "want" So: you could say: REALLY want to do something..... I don't really want to change your habits. That is why I really want so much (tant) that you would come and run with us. (double emphasis: "tenir" and "tant"

The verb "Tenir" means "to hold" But "Tenir à " in thoses sentences could mean "to want" but not exactly , I really couldn't find its appropriate synonym In another example : "Je tiens à toi" means "I care about you "
