How many people went to the patient's house in the Chinese article? I am reading a Chinese newspaper report about an assault on a paramedic at a patient's house. I am little confused as to how many people actually went to the patients house. The first 2 lines of the article read: 1月3日凌晨,德阳市人民医院( Deyang People’s Hospital)急诊科医生小天(化名)在病人的家里救病人的时候,被病人的亲友打伤。 小天说,3日凌晨12点57分,他接到一个急救电话。接完电话,他和一个护士、两个急救医生马上开车去病人的家。到那儿的时间是1点06分。 So 小天 is the paramedic who was assaulted and he clearly was there, then it says he and a nurse, and 2 emergency doctors went to the patients house. That seems like a lot of people, 1 paramedic, a nurse and two doctors? Am I understanding this correctly? Is it normal in China for nurses and doctors to go with the paramedics to the house? In England, only paramedics go to the house, and they take them back to the hospital where the doctors and nurses take over.

Hey, I've checked this news again. Compared to the version I've read there are some mistakes in what you've read. 1) Hier 小天 is the emergency department physician or simply refered to as emergency doctor 2) 1 nurse, that's right 3) 两个急救医生, here is the mistake. I don't think these two are doctors. They are paramedics(I don't know for sure wether paramedic is correct here) or ambulance attendant, who are responsible for ambulance stretcher. In China a emergency doctor will go with the ambulance, so that patients can be treated as soon as possible.

Here, something you may have missed is the difference between ,(our good old comma) and 、(顿号), called an enumeration comma and is typical to Chinese. Because of it, there is no possibility to misunderstand that the "2 doctors" could somehow be the paramedic + a nurse suddenly grouped as "doctors", it's a list of people. So, your understanding is correct, that's 4 people. If you have ever been to China and had to deal with the police, this shouldn't really come as a surprise... ;)

Normally, when patients call the emergency medical service center, the center would dispatch an ambulance to their house. Each ambulance would have one or two emergency doctors, and one or two paramedics. However, in some small cities or rural areas, the hospital might send its own cars to patients' place, and several doctors come along with the cars.
