From the literary point of view, the focus of each group is different as it ?turns solely on? the make-up of the members and their predilections. As far as I understand the definition that makes sense here is "turn on something (also turn upon something) if a situation, event, argument etc turns on a particular thing or idea, it depends on that thing: As usual, everything turned on how much money was available. Right? What other synonyms is it possible to use here? Will it be ok to use "confined to" or "limited to"?
