I am going Crazy about On/Kun Yomi Hi everyone .. thank you for reading my question .. I am about to go crazy , cause i don't understand WHEN to use On-Yomi and WHEN to use Kun-Yomi ... For example , the word ( MIZUKAGE ) , why it's mizukage and not SUIKAGE ? the same for ( SUITON ) , why suiton and not MIZUTON ? You Japanese how do you know when to use it ? my Second sub question is : is there a rule for it ? Thanks , i appreciate your help :)

usually the rule is (there are exception probably) that you do not mix ON and KUN yomi, thus if one part of the word is in KUN yomi, then the other part is also KUN yomi, and so on.

This is my opinion. If over two kanji conforms jukugo, we use onyomi. Since mizukage is not jukugo, we use onyomi.

I had asked my Japanese friends the same question. They say it is by tradition and by rote memory! One rule is that if the syllables are too many, then the "Chinese" pronunciation is used. Usually this can be seen in the full names of companies.
