Is "featured" the verb in this sentence? Please. Is "featured" the verb in this sentence below? So, what part of speech "lit"? And what does it mean? "Far before Instagram filters took off, still life paintings often featured dramatically lit feast." Thank you.

If I am understanding the sentence correctly, yes, "featured" is the verb. "Lit" is an adjective, or that's what it seems. "Dramatically" is the adverb and "feast" is the noun, and adjectives are often preceded by adverbs. I believe "lit" is an adjective, which describes the feast.

Hi Jennifer, As the previous Italki members have clearly described the word classes where "lit" and "featured" belong, I would like to share that the adverb "dramatically" modifies the adjective "lit". Adverbs not only modify verbs, but can also modify adjectives. Example: A visually impaired gentleman. Visually modifies the adjective "impaired ". Just sharing my two cents worth. Cheers, Lance

You have clarified my doubts. Thank you very much.

"featured" is the verb in the past tense, it would be a synonym for "presented". And "lit" here works as an adjective, but indeed it is the past participle of the verb "to light" (so, the feast was illuminated in a dramatical way in that paintings). Hope it helps you.
