Western society is no longer as group-oriented as China, although I understand China is changing rapidly. In the old-fashioned "traditional" world, it would be very strange if groups made decisions based on the sexual pleasure of the individual group members. Decisions about marriage and having children were based on protecting the group (the family), not about making the individuals happy. In contrast, in the Western societies, when the individual and not the group chooses, the individual's pleasure and happiness matter. ALSO, the Western world had a sexual revolution almost 50 years ago; I really do not know if this ever really happened in China.
