What does "I'd watch your back" mean?
I watched a movie named Last Chance Harvey recently. Harvey is heading to London to join his daughter wedding. One of his colleagues tells him that their boss wants he to represent his own idea when Harvey is not here. And he said:
"I am not doing myself any favor here, Harvey. I'd watch your back."
What does "I'd watch your back" mean?
Does it mean that he wants Harvey to be back soon? or something else?

Hello Matt,
No he doesn't want Harvey to be back soon , he is just assuring him that he will defend his interests during his absence and that he could totally rely on him.

Actually "watch your back" means to be careful, to be alert of someone or something that might hurt you. Of course it could simply mean be careful of your back as in our body part. Here I guess the former is proper. So "I'd watch your back "means I would like be alert of someone or something that might hurt you.

"I'd watch your back" ("I would watch your back") means that the colleague is advising Harvey to be careful and to watch out for betrayal.
Think of it as a warning that someone may sneak up on him from behind or stab him in the back, figuratively speaking.

hello matt,
it could mean "Look out for what might be behind you." or "Don't worry about what might be behind you, I'll take care of that."
this is a common attitude shown between friends or comrades to express care (or protection) towards one another.
