I think this is a big topic and there would be no right or wrong answers. here in our country, most mothers are working (as might as they can be) to sustain their family's financial needs. although, one of the downside is that children are not properly taken care of... to me, a woman (mother) should stay at home being the light of the family. :)

well may i suggest that they should work to.maybe in the early 50's women stay at home just to take care of the children and the house in short family. i think that women should have a support to the family not every body has a high salary in job..example if i have a family and only renting a house with two children and paid in a minimum wages do you think i can give my children needs but if my wife can work we can save money and can give our children needs not only that by this time women should participate in the community...we need to move on its for better future..

I think most women in China, would prefer better financial support and feeling of security no matter it is from their work or their partners. In China, there used to be a discussion on finding a successful husband is more important than having a successful career.

Well in Finland women going out to work is almost self-evident standard and women who don't go out for work are looked down. To go out for work or not should be personal choice and people shouldn't be judged because of that. I personally think that going out for work is the best: 1. It gives you financial freedom from your husband...you don't have to be like little girl asking for pocket money from her parents. Shopping with husband's money feels bit like leeching... 2. You form new personal contacts and friendships at work... so there's isn't so big danger of becoming reserved and lonely homebody who rarely goes out... 3. Having your own career and financies is good basis for new life if your marriage ends... either death or divorce. 4. Housewives don't build up pension... I know one almost 70-year-old woman in Finland who has to work because she lived around 30 years as housewife, then her husband died and left debts and she only gets the small minimum "people's pension" from the state which everyone gets from state regardless if they haven't worked even single day in their life... but it's damn small...you barely can survive with it... So now she tries to collect the work-based pension for herself what people normally collect during their work-career...
