"why, of course" I've read a lot of english comics and noticed a lot of "why, of course". I just want to know what is the function of "WHY" in that statement. Is it just an exaggeration or making the statement more colloquial? We can just say, "of course" alone, right?Sorry, please ignore the "for learning: Spanish". it should be English.

It's there to emphasise 'of course'.and was often used in polite English society in C19. eg 'Jeeves where are you? I rang the bell . I want a sherry brought up now'. 'Why, of course Madam, I will bring your sherry in a minute'.

hi, you should change your question, you posted it as a spanish learning question, ask it again but as a english learning question. i have read that phrase a lot too and i think i get what`s the difference between "why, of course" and only "of course" but i don´t think i can explain it, so better change it to enghlish learning and maybe a native english speaker can explain it to you. see you.
