길 means "path" including all kinds of path like street, road, track.. 거리 (same to 길거리) means "path crowded with people or vehicles" and is usually used as the meaning of "street"

I would say meaning of 길 is close to 'road' and of 거리 is close to 'street' But pretty much exchangeable. Hope this help
