loved or simply tolerated Hi I'm confused by the meaning of '' loved or simply tolerated'' in this context! Would you explain it? The family is the most important agent of socialization because it represents the center of children's lives. Babies are almost totally dependent on others, and the responsibility of meeting their needs almost always falls on parents and other family members. At least until the start of schooling, the family is responsible for teaching children cultural values, attitudes, and prejudices about themselves and others. Family-based socialization is not entirely intentional. Children learn continuously from the kind of environment that adults create for them. Whether children learn to think of themselves as strong or weak, smart or stupid, loved or simply tolerated, and whether they believe the world to be safe or dangerous, largely stems from this early environment that adults create. Thank you

This year, I had a great idea, to write the names of people I love and hang them on my Christmas tree. People that I´m grateful for in my life. However, after writing three of these cards, I realised that I do not love many of these people, I simply tolerate them, so my gratitude tree quickly became a tolerance tree. I hope this story helps to explain the difference.

When you tolerate someone you don’t love them, you simply accept their existence but you don’t have warm feelings to that person. Hope that helps.
