“comparatively better” or “comparatively good” - which is correct?
Hi friends,
“comparatively better” or “comparatively good” - which is correct?
E.g.
It is comparatively better.
It is comparatively good.

I think people will say “comparatively better,” but in my view that is a redundant phrase. “Better” implies comparison, so you don’t need to say “comparatively.” I think “comparatively good” is OK, and it means “better.”

The answer lies in the word compare or comparative or comparatively.
Although they are both commonly used phrases, they are incorrect. Compare as the name implies is comparing.
"comparatively speaking" is another phrase and this one is correct and has no redundancy.
Compare means to note that something is similar or a little different.
Compared with = noting that something somebody is similar or different by a degree.
Comparatively = compare+ive= comparing +ly=increasing amount.
compare with happy and happily.

better or good you will see do not fit they are not needed. They are redundant.
