Do you know the right answer for this sentence?
we (played - were playing) football as my friend Saeed was coming.
Is it simple or continuous?

Both are grammatically correct.
“We were playing” is past continuous tense, and I would say it is more common.

The right answer is “ We were playing football as my friend Saeed was coming ”
