What is the Russian word for tongue , as in mouth, as opposed to tongue meaning language? thank you.

Both are "язык". There are no separate words for that, as far as I know. :)

I agree with Nois that both are "язык". For example, we can say ' высунуть язык ' or ' знать русский язык '. The meaning is usually evident from the context. If not, you can use some specification, e.g. "язык как средство общения" (language) or "язык как орган речи" (tongue).

Мой ответ расширяет вопрос, (наверное к сожалению): слово "язык", употребляется ещё в нескольких значениях:
1. знающий военные секреты "пленник".
2. в кулинарии - как название блюда из "говяжьего языка",
3. как запирающая часть механического замка "язык", или язычок.
Так что это довольно широкое место в русском "языке" :)

I would imagine that many laguages use the same word in both instances. Since "tongue" as in language come from the "tongue" as in mouth, since you use your tongue to speak.
