Whats the difference between these two statements?

Its from the sentence " El otro día se me rompió el coche y tuve que volver a casa."
I'm reading it as "My car broke" but I can't figure out the "me" and if it creates a difference here.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

"Me" es un pronombre de objeto para la primera persona del singular; por lo tanto, en este caso "me" señala que el carro que se dañó es el tuyo, mientras que en la frase " se dañó el coche"  no especifica de quién es.

En México decimos: Se me descompuso el carro, también: se descompuso mi carro. (if you are the owner)

Cuando dices se me rompió el coche te refieres a tu coche o carro en específico y cuando dices se rompió el coche puedes usarlo como el coche de alguien más o el tuyo también .

It depends on what you want to say. In spanish you can not say this "you say sth like this "Mi carro se descompusó"  that the mean in english  "My car is broken down"
