the meaning of "laile"
My book mentions the phrase "lai le" as meaning "here you are" when you hand something over (in their example it is food as in kafei lai le". My dictionary has the character "lai" as 2nd tone and meaning to come but it doesn't have the "le" character. Is "le" pronounced fifth tone?

Here le without tone. or as you put it the fifth tone.
lai le means Somebody is coming!
E.g.
Mom:the dinner is ready! Son:laile!(means I'm coming!!!)
le is a postfix here! Just a fixed pattern.Aother example:
hao le!好了!hao(3rd tone) means good! But haole means It's ready. It's finished.
E.g. Mom: Fan(4) hao(3) le 饭(Rice)is ready! Means the dinner is ready!
tai(4) hao le! Means Great!!!
E.G Teacher: We're going to the park tomorrow!!!
Students:Tai hao le!(Great!!!!)

In this situation, the waiter omit a word "fan cai(饭菜 food)"in oral Chinese. Its full expression is "ni dian de fan cai huo shi wu lai le"(你点的饭菜或食物来了,Your food is coming)
le pronounce fifth tone,no problem.
lai means come. For example, if you meet a colleaque at office in the morning ,you can say 你来了(ni lai le)to say hello.
