Interesting, yes?AN EXPLANATORY NOTE:
1 - I KNEW WHEN I POSTED THIS QUESTION THAT EVERYONE KNOWS THAT MANDARIN IS THE LANGUAGE SPOKEN BY THE LARGEST NUMBER OF PEOPLE.
2 - MY INTENT WAS SIMPLY TO PROVIDE A WEBSITE LINK THAT LISTED THE TOP 30 LANGUAGES.
3 - THE QUESTION WAS NOT INTENDED FOR ITALKI MEMBERS WHO HAVE MADE A CAREER OF TEACHING ANY LANGUAGE AS I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED THEY WOULD HAVE KNOWN THE ANSWER.
4 - THE QUESTION WAS NOT INTENDED TO TRIGGER ANY CRITICISM OF ANY LANGAUGE.
5 - I SIMPLY THOUGHT THAT SOME OF THE ITALKI MEMBERS MAY HAVE FOUND THE LIST OF 30 LANGUAGES INTERESTING.
I THANK THOSE WHO HAVE MADE INTERESTING AND/OR INFORMATIVE COMMENTS, AND I SUGGEST THAT WE TRY TO MAINTAIN A DEGREE OF CIVILITY IN OUR RESPONSES.

Yes, presently it's Chinese; and I think in a few decades, it would be English. Just imagine a great portion of citizens in the world's most populated country can speak English as well.

@ Daniel: Since the English speakers in China are not native and most of them suck at speaking properly, they will not overtake America in that respect.
