this is a good and interesting question first, there is no difference between '跟' and "和",when they use to express the meaning of "and" "和"pronounced as he(rising tone) in chinese in Mainland China but in Taiwa, some people will pronounced "和" as han(fourth tone ),especially young girls hope that helpful!

作为“连词”时,“跟”和“和”意思基本相同,例如:“我跟他在一起”和“我和他在一起”意思相同。“和”在书面语中用得多一些,“跟”在口语用得多一些。

they are same basically。 和 pronounced as he(rising tone) in mandarin。 but in Chinese Taipei ,it generally pronounces han(fourth tone ), but its completely wrong if you think the pronounciation han is origin of Chinese Taipei 。actuality, its from the traditional Beijing accent。 you konw some beijing resident moved to Taipei following Chiang Kai-shek in 1949。 and in 1960s it ever popularized the mandarin in Taipei ,so the pronounciation (han) to come into being in Taipei 。

1 " but in Taiwa, some people will pronounced "和" as han(fourth tone ),especially young girls " 一語 有誤 生為台灣人 就事實評論 "han4"音通行於台灣全島男女老少 無關乎妙齡女子 2 語音始終在改變 語言學上描述一種語言的發音 並無法用 standard ,或 not standard 來區分 " its completely wrong " 恐怕也沉重了些 "han4"音 甚至是北京音 禮失求諸野 復現於台灣罷了 請參考 http://www.khmusic.com.tw/modules/yybbs/viewbbs.php?start=200&bbs_id=2 3 依教育部辭典 對 "和" 一字的發音與定義規範 作為連接詞 與 "跟 及"等意 且作 "語音"時 定其音為"han4" 作"文讀"時 依舊念"he2"
