Quite a lot of Chinese people say that they have “Chinese stomachs”, which means that their favorite has always been Chinese food and they can’t live without it. However, it seems that I don’t have this kind of problem. During my one-year stay in Spain as an exchange student, I didn’t miss Chinese food as much as my classmates did. They tended to cook Chinese food at home, while I made Western or Japanese food. Recently I’ve read a book that has changed my mind to some extent. The author wrote about traditional Taiwanese food in memory of her mother and grandmother. As I read this book, I realized that the food that we’ve eaten from childhood has formed part of our identity. Maybe if I don’t learn to make typical Shanghainese dishes now, I’ll regret the loss in the future.

That is perfect. I am not sure is Shanghainese is used. People may just write Shanghai dishes. I may be wrong though.
