What are the books that have had an impact on your life?

The giver by Louis Lowry had and important impact in my life, I read it when I was 15 years old and teach the lessons that everything depends on how do you see things in life and his perspective, we think some things are bad because that's how we learned while growing up, but, do they really are???

A book called "The Rational Optimist" has changed my opinion toward Genetically Modified organisms. I had an opinion that was inherited by my parents that GMOs could be harmful to our health. However, this book said if we modify the genes of organisms to create more nutritious food which is good for depression, for example, food will be more valuable. Thus, I changed my mind about GMOs in a good way.

Voy a discutir un libro que me explotó la cabeza cuando lo leí hace unos años. Un libro que todavía hoy me hace cuestionar mis creencias y mi forma de ver el mundo. Este libro espectacular se llama “Chasing the Scream” o en español “Tras el grito”. Probablemente estés pensando de qué se trata este libro tan fantástico, no es verdad ? Pues el libro te lleva en un viaje para aprender y entender el porqué detrás de la guerra contra las drogas. El autor Johan recorrió todo el mundo entrevistando a mucha gente distinta que tiene algo ver con este gran fenómeno que hoy en día llamamos la guerra contra las drogas. A decir verdad lo que descubrió es realmente sorprendente. Por ejemplo, el hecho de que el hombre que lanzó esta ley para prohibir drogas fue el acoso y asesinato de Billie Holiday (una cantante muy famosa). Además de esto, la razón por la cual la ley fue introducida sobre los estados unidos tenía nada que ver con los impactos perjudiciales que las drogas pueden tener en la gente o sea como muchos de nosotros creemos que supuestamente la ley está allí para proteger a la gente del país. Desde mi punto de vista el hecho más sorprendente del libro es que el hombre que acabo de mencionar que fue fundamental en crear esta ley él mismo tomaba drogas. Aprendí que básicamente todo lo que creemos sobre las leyes contra las drogas son mentiras.

I love reading and just to keep it short, 3 of my favorite books are "100 Years of Solitude" (Gabriel Garcia Marquez), The Demon-Haunted World (Carl Sagan) and "1984" (George Orwell) There are so many great books that if I needed to answer the same question tomorrow, I'm sure this list will be different.
