Ricardo Filgueira

Ricardo class is very good. He knows all the details about portugues grammar, vocabulary and expressions, and is very good at transmiting that knowledge.

I started lessons with Ricardo two months ago as a complete beginner and it has been great. His lessons are very interactive and multi-faceted (grammar, vocab, oral comprehension, “real life” vs. formal Portuguese, pronunciation tips, PDF material/lessons and audio recordings via e-mail) and there are a lot of opportunities to practice during the lesson. He also explains really well the small nuances in pronunciation– for me, this was one of the most intimidating parts of learning Portuguese, but now I feel comfortable with reading (slowly) and when listening, I can decipher how a word might be spelled, which helps a lot with comprehension. Ricardo obviously has a lot of experience and passion for teaching, and I’m really impressed with the course and with the fact that he seems to constantly be updating and creating material. I had another great lesson with Ricardo tonight. We have been working through text that I produce and his comments and insights are second to none as show his extensive knowledge of crafting texts in Portuguese. Another exceptional skill that Ricardo possesses is that he does not sugar-coat his responses - he gives you critical but constructive input to help you improve, and is always there with words of encouragement when discouragement arises. Manda ver, Ricardo!

After spending the last 2 years across the platform learning Spanish and recently starting Portuguese, having tried out around 50 tutors. I can honestly say Ricardos methods are great and I would recommend him to anyone starting out learning Portuguese. Excited to continue my journey with him.

Ricardo's correction of my work this week was exceptional - not only did explain all of my grammatical and spelling errors, he took the time to re-write the script at the 'C1' level to provide me additional guidance! As I have said before, what I particularly like about Ricardo is not only his enthusiasm and professionalism, but the fact he doesn't 'sugar- coat' my work - he reviews it minutely and provides a complete review, with a grade that is commensurate with my performance. This helps me gauge my knowledge and progress all the while providing me an exceptional learning experience.

I have had over 40 classes with Ricardo, and he is a super dedicated Portuguese tutor. The content is amazing, and he is really patient. He tailors the lessons to fit my learning style and needs, all while keeping things fun. I totally recommend him and the online courses he has created!
