I am very much a person who “learns by doing”, and I am finding that Hina Sensei’s approach to teaching works very well for me. Rather than passively reading explanations or listening to examples, we work together to use the new grammar points almost immediately after learning them. I feel like my learning has really accelerated since starting to work with Hina Sensei (although at the same time I’m realizing how many more things I still need to learn 😩). I have to be very efficient in how I spend my limited study time, and I feel like the one hour per week with Hina Sensei is always time well-spent!

Today’s lesson was great as always. I’m really happy I found Hina Sensei on this site because her lessons are consistently excellent and a perfect fit for me. The lesson time is always well utilized and is always very interactive - we don’t waste time doing things I can do on my own outside of class. Hina Sensei consistently provides detailed feedback (both positive and critical) which helps me understand what I need to focus on to get better. In addition, she reviews the homework in detail and really helps me understand the nuances of the new grammar points and more natural ways to write.

As usual, today’s lesson was challenging but also really good. For me, I learn best when I get pushed a bit out of my comfort zone and Hina Sensei’s lessons do exactly that (but in a good way!). We hit the ground running with each new grammar lesson and Hina Sensei has me trying to use the new grammar points right away. I definitely struggle at times (and Hina Sensei has infinite patience watching me figure things out) but I find that I learn much more quickly through this approach. I like that she also provides regular and direct feedback, correcting some of my bad habits and guiding me towards more natural ways of wording things
