Hello! I'm Caoimhín and I teach Irish here on italki.
Some facts about me:
I'm originally from Dublin, where English is the main language, but I did all my schooling through Irish, so I've been hearing, speaking, reading, and writing Irish since I was four years old.
I started teaching Irish about four or five years ago and I really enjoy it. Even as a teacher, there's always more to learn. I love discovering new words and phrases and sharing them with my students.
I'm a microbiologist by training, but the Irish language is my real passion!
I've learned Finnish and German to an upper intermediate level myself, so I know what it takes to learn a language!Öğretmen Olarak Ben
I'm a very patient, agreeable person and I also try to be flexible in adapting my methods to fit the student's aims and learning style. I see myself more of a mentor than a teacher. My job is to facilitate learning in any way that I can.
I'm very aware of how challenging and overwhelming it can be to learn a language, especially at the beginning. Reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, dialects, slang, differences between written and spoken usage – there is so much to learn!
One of my main priorities is trying not to overwhelm the student by introducing too much new information all at once. Learning a language takes time. No need to rush. We'll get there! Derslerim ve öğretme tarzım
I think the most important thing is that the learning process is at least somewhat enjoyable. If you enjoy spending time with the language you'll learn more than by trying to forcefully memorise vocabulary lists or grammar rules.
I can provide structured lessons with notes and homework exercises, or we can just chat about something that interests you and learn some useful words and phrases related to that topic. I sometimes also ask students to describe what's happening in a picture.
