I am Elma Janeth, a native Spanish speaker from Colombia—a country full of life, color, and culture, just like my classes! I have been teaching Spanish and English my whole life. I have taught students of all ages. I am a certified English teacher with a Master’s in Translation, and I specialize in helping learners truly connect with the language—not just memorize it.
Teaching is more than a job to me—it’s my passion and purpose. I'm known for being creative, patient, and full of positive energy. I love designing fun, personalized lessons that make you feel confident and excited to learn.

I truly believe we learn best by doing. That’s why my teaching is rooted in the Communicative Approach, where real interaction leads to real progress. The more we speak, listen, and engage with the language, the more confident and fluent we become.
To bring Spanish to life, I use everything at my fingertips—videos, photos, books, music, cooking, clothes, and of course, online resources. I also design each class based on your specific goals and interests, so learning feels personal, dynamic, and enjoyable—not stressful or overly focused on grammar, which is also learned in context or, with detailed explanations, when necessary.

In class, we focus on real communication—you will speak, listen, and think in Spanish through role-plays, improvisation, discussion, creative writing, and dynamic conversations. I always help refine your pronunciation, expand your vocabulary, and boost your fluency.
My lessons follow a three-step structure: 1. Topic introduction and warm-up, 2. Interactive activities and skill-building, 3. Wrap-up with feedback, pronunciation correction, and follow-up.

Profesora Elma is a great teacher! She is teaching me so much about Colombian cultures and I am so much more excited about my trip to Medellin! Our classes are informal though never unorganized and she challenges me, often asking me comprehension questions along throughout the lesson. I’ve only taken 2 classes with Profe but I am already seeing how much better I will be able to get at speaking and listening(:

I enjoy my classes with Elma ! She helps me with my pronunciation and teaches me alot about Colombian culture. She has also been giving me recommendations for my upcoming trip to Medellin and Armenia. I am thankful for her help in getting to know Colombia and what to expect when Im there.

I attribute this improvement to Elma’s teaching style, mentorship, and guidance. Her ability to put you at ease and allow you to truly enjoy the learning process is unparalleled. Elma is an outstanding teacher. I've tried multiple different techniques to improve my language abilities. My lessons with Elma have truly made a difference in my language journey. Her classes are far more than "say this" and "say that". It feels like an immersion class focused on language, culture, and history. I highly recommend taking classes with Elma.
